A popular day-out for the whole family, the area known as ‘Bois aux Allemands’ in Assens offers the chance to enjoy the natural surroundings whilst learning about the local flora and the history of the site. Footbridges provide a vantage point from which to observe two ponds and their inhabitants, both animals and plants. Dotted with fun information boards, an educational trail winds through the arboretum, which features around thirty native tree species. Descriptions of each tree are skilfully presented on engaging information boards suitable for young and old alike. As you explore this haven of peace, you can enjoy a break at the picnic area, in the shade of majestic fir trees.


The Bois des Allemands is also a site of significant historical importance, as it is home to a tumulus, a Celtic burial mound dating from 600 BC. An engraved stone marks the spot where, over 100 years ago, an excavation revealed the remains of a woman of high rank.
