Starting from Yverdon-les-Bains railway station, the route passes by the famous Place Pestalozzi and its medieval castle before quickly leaving the town behind and heading uphill.
The route, which starts with a gentle climb to the outskirts of Echallens, then descends for a flat return journey through the Plaine de l’Orbe. The landscape is mainly rural. The path is lined with colourful fields and copses, with the Jura or the Alps always in the background.

Throughout the route, you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of traditional villages. In Essertines and Vuarrens, there are shops selling local produce to explore. The views over the varied landscape of the Gros de Vaud – the canton’s veritable breadbasket – are magnificent. Fields of wheat, barley, spelt and maize glisten in the sun. Depending on the season, you can admire the splendour of the yellow flowers in the rapeseed and sunflower fields.

In the centre of the village of Goumoens-la-Ville, you’ll find a few typical farms dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries. It’s also a lovely place to stock up on produce. Many farmers offer a wide range of farm produce on a self-service basis. The route crosses the Plaine de l’Orbe before returning to Yverdon-les-Bains, where the day ends wonderfully by the lake.
