Starting from Echallens, this pleasant loop takes you through fields, forests, along watercourses and through villages typical of the canton’s ‘breadbasket’. As soon as you leave the village heading towards Villars-le-Terroir, vast fields of crops stretch as far as the eye can see: wheat, barley, spelt, maize, rapeseed and sunflowers add colour to the landscape throughout the seasons, whilst sugar beet fills the fields in autumn.

In Goumoens-la-Ville, several producers offer local produce on a self-service basis: fruit, vegetables, potatoes, rapeseed oil and seasonal specialities. The village also boasts some fine traditional Vaud farms dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries.

The route then leads on to Saint-Barthélemy and its 12th-century castle, before passing through the open countryside of Bioley-Orjulaz. Further on, the Bois d’Orjulaz offer a pleasant respite in nature, where young and old trees provide a home for numerous species of birds.

The return journey to Echallens follows the River Talent and its molasse landscapes. In the shade of the trees, several small pebble beaches invite you to take a refreshing break with your feet in the water.
